Understanding Catechist Certification

Frequently Asked Questiuons

1. IS THERE AN ORDER TO TAKING THE CLASSES?

No but certificates will only be awarded in the correct order (BC, IC1,..IC5, AC).

2. CAN I RECEIVE MORE THAN ONE CERTIFICATE AT A TIME?

Yes, but each course may only be counted once.  Certificates will be presented yearly at the year-end Celebration Mass. For details, ask your Director of Religious Education (DRE).

3. WHO KEEPS TRACK OF THE CERTIFICATION?

Catechists should keep track of the courses taken and inform the DRE of the progress. At the appropriate time, the DRE will request certification from the Office for Faith Education.  Brochures for each level of certification are available for catechists in order to facilitate record keeping.

4. WHERE CAN I TAKE COURSES?

Every year the Archdiocese will endeavor to offer courses in both the Basic and Intermediate levels at various locations around the city. Each year, in the fall, a Catechetical Conference is held, from which courses will be accredited towards certification.
